The Hyenas
The Hyenas are not an organized faction in the traditional sense. They have no ideology, no territory they openly govern, and no interest in stability. What they share is a history of rejection and a taste for disorder.
Most Hyenas were once candidates for Chamber of Roses initiation. They entered training, failed to conform, and were expelled for behavioral reasons. Violence without discipline. Humor without restraint. Impulse without control. Traits the Chamber could not tolerate were left to ferment outside its official ranks.
That expulsion didn’t remove them from the system. It repurposed them.
The Hyenas are reckless, aggressive, and unpredictable. They move through Sentry City in small, loosely connected packs, blending into the population until activated. Their defining trait is not loyalty to a cause, but to a person. They answer only to Cyrus.
Cyrus has spent years cultivating the Hyenas, selecting individuals, encouraging their worst instincts, and giving them permission to act without consequence. He uses them as his personal Compliance Unit while on patrol, deploying them to hunt opposition and disrupt any sign of resistance within the city. Where Cyrus goes, a pack is never far behind.
Their presence alone is enough to unsettle civilians. The Hyenas are known for leaving chaos in their wake, not just through violence, but through the way they perform it. They joke. They laugh. They turn brutality into spectacle. Every confrontation becomes a game, and every target becomes the punchline.
Despite their reputation, the Hyenas are effective. Overwhelming numbers and unconventional fighting styles allow them to execute targets quickly. What they lack in structure, they make up for in ferocity and momentum. They strike fast, leave little behind, and vanish into the city.
Cyrus keeps a small group of Hyenas close at all times. They function as his bodyguards and, at times, his entertainment. The rest remain scattered throughout Sentry City, embedded and waiting.
No one knows how many Hyenas exist. Only that there are always more than expected.
In Sentry City, order is enforced by systems, soldiers, and policy.
The Hyenas represent what happens when compliance is outsourced to chaos.
