Arthur Magnus, Supreme Chancellor
This entry is part of an ongoing series introducing the key characters that inhabit the world of Jericho Cutter.
Arthur Magnus is driven by obsession, power, and a need to dominate every opponent he encounters, whether through force, politics, or fear. Though publicly revered as a wartime hero, his rise to Supreme Chancellor of the Chamber of Roses is not rooted in unity or long-term vision. It is rooted in control.
Magnus was elevated by the Chamber’s Elders after the war, positioned as a symbol of strength and continuity. In practice, his leadership is shaped by unresolved personal vendettas and a persistent appetite for violence. The authority he wields does not temper him. It amplifies what was already there.
Beneath his imposing presence is a resentment he refuses to confront. Past failures linger, unexamined, while victories feel insufficient and fleeting. Magnus does not reflect. He accumulates. Power becomes the only reliable measure of worth, and anything that challenges it is treated as a threat.
Emotion, in his view, is a liability. Loyalty is not earned, but extracted and leveraged. Relationships are transactional, useful only insofar as they reinforce his position. Mercy has no role in his understanding of leadership, and compromise is indistinguishable from weakness.
For Arthur Magnus, the war never truly ended. It simply shifted arenas. What was once fought on the battlefield is now pursued through governance, enforcement, and psychological dominance. His crusade is personal, even when framed as order or stability.
Arthur Magnus does not seek peace.
He seeks permanence.
And he intends to secure it through absolute control.
